Perfect (bookish) Christmas

A Very Harry ChristmasAlthough I’m a bit envious of all the people whose Christmas holidays have already begun, three more days of work do not stop me from having Christmassy feelings. This past year was such a busy one I am set on spending Christmas in the perfect way and stretching it as far as it’ll go. I even set up my Christmas tree back in November (I REGRET NOTHING).

So, after I finished the JLPT (Japanese language exam) on December 7th, I went all out. Nothing was holding me back. Nothing was separating me from my Harry Potter books! I have been craving a reread for along time. Seeing how I was already 82 books into my reading challenge (which I set for 75 books), I figured now was the time. For me, nothing quite says ‘December’ like Harry Potter!

And I must say I am really enjoying rereading it. I never reread them all in a row or even in the right order, and the last time I reread one anyway was in 2011, when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: part 2 was released. I just finished book three (my favourite omg) and I don’t think I will be able to finish all the books in 2014, but I don’t care. I am enjoying the books now more than ever, and I am noticing so many (small and large) things I never quite paid attention to before.

I’m also playing along with the books on Pottermore, which is great fun 😀 I hadn’t paid any attention to Pottermore since its release, but it has improved so much! I still have to dig in to Rowling’s new short stories, but I’ll save those for actual Christmas… you know, as a present to myself haha.

Christmas at Hogwarts

HogfatherI won’t just stick to Harry Potter this Christmas though. Like every year, I plan to read an actual Christmas themed book, along with my book club. This year we’ve picked Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. I’m really looking forward to it! It’ll be my first ‘real’ Pratchett book (although I read Good Omens a few years ago). We’ll also celebrate Christmas with our book club, like we did the previous years (except this year our Christmas will be in January, oops).

But honestly? I can’t wait for actual Christmas. Food, presents, books, movies, hanging around in my pjs all day… *cough* And no obligations whatsoever! I also really enjoyed going to the book store and carefully choosing books (besides other presents) for my parents! Now let’s hope Santa will be kind to me too 😉 there were quite a few books on my Christmas wishlist this year…

What is your perfect (bookish) Christmas? What are you going to read these holidays?

  1. Ahhhh, HOGFATHER. IT’S GOOD. (And that is an AWESOME cover of Hogfather that I haven’t seen before.) I love Terry Pratchett so much! And speaking of Good Omens, I started listening to the BBC radio play today! I listened to the first episode and it’s really good. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

I’m currently reading Between Two Thorns by Emma Newman and it’s actually proving a great Christmas read! Fairly light-hearted and fun fantasy book, I’m enjoying it SO MUCH!

Yeah, I really haven’t looked at Pottermore in ages… I should probably go and catch up and see what’s there now.

  2. Re-reading the whole Harry Potter series is something I’ve been wanting to do for SO long. Never quite find the times… And I actually only own four of them (the first one I read in France, in French, and I’ve no clue where those books went).

I didn’t plan any Christmas read… Unless you consider a horror novel a Christmas read (the eARC of The Deep by Nick Cutter). Oh well! I have a ton of books I want to read so the holidays are going to appreciated anyway!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!
